About

Acoustic.nu is the home of my, Rachel's, fanlisting collective. Opened on 19 February 2010, it is the home of many of the fanlistings I own (some are hosted on other domains), as well as lists the fanlistings I have joined.

What is a fanlisting? According to TheFanlistings.org:

A fanlisting is simply an online list of fans of a subject, such as a TV show, actor, or musician, that is created by an individual and open for fans from around the world to join. There are no costs, and the only requirements to join a fanlisting are your name and country. Fanlistings do not have to be large sites (although some are), they are just a place where you can sign up with other fans.

The domain Acoustic.nu was originally owned by Hannah, who had wanted to use it to house a forum project she was working on with a friend. When that didn't work out, she thought about turning it into a music fanlisting collective, but ended up putting it up for sale.

Meanwhile, I had been trying for a long time to come up with the perfect domain name for my fanlisting collective, which had been hosted on a subdomain of my main website. I knew that Hannah had some domains for sale at her domain collective, and I had been eying Acoustic.nu for a while, which was listed as unused but not for sale. I checked back every once in a while just to see if she had posted any new domains for sale, but I wasn't really expecting to see Acoustic.nu for sale. On 14 February 2010, I saw that she had added it, and immediately emailed her and bought it. Besides the name, I couldn't resist the price of only $20 (to newly register a .nu, it costs over $50).
